84 participants enjoyed perfect conditions for this opening race of the 2005 season.
As usual this event proved to be exactly what was needed to blow out the cobwebs in a fun way and to be good preparation for next weeks Shaw Baton Relays.
First up was the junior race which was won by Alex Hooft (4:15) with the diminutive figure of Alex Sugden literally hot on his heels, accompanied by general comments of "where did he come from!". With typical harrier tenacity he hung on for the entire race like a veteran cross country exponent! Look for good things from this young fellow in the future!
Juan McDonald will no longer be running in the Maiden event. He executed a well judged race to comfortably win in a time of 8:04. Also moving up to the much vaunted Perston race next year will be Dallas Mitchell who won the handicap trophy by beating his predicted time by a massive 2 Min's and 3 seconds.
Well done you two!!
The Perston trophy was retained by Matt Prosser (6:49), who after taking a tumble revealed the sting in his tail by getting back up and winning by 2 seconds over a strong running Matt Singleton.
The Handicap winner in the Perston Event was Lachlan Rusbridge who running with Anthony Gardner and sharing the same predicted time, pushed each other to exceed their handicaps by over a minute each.
