Welcome to the start of the 2026 harrier season! As always, we start off with the Maiden and Perston 2km cross country club races. Like last year, we had hot and calm summer-like conditions with an excellent fast course. The course was the same as recent years, with two 1km laps that follow the outside perimeter of the fields.
In the Maiden race, the race for those who have never won a competitive race before, Charlie McDougall finished first, 10 seconds ahead of Duke Shipman. Albert O'Brien won the sealed handicap, finishing 1:18 faster than his handicap time.
In the Perston Memorial, Max Doherty was first across the line for the third time in the last four years, with a time of 6:07, 30 seconds ahead of Simon Angus. First female across the line was Isobel Thurston, in 7:00, ahead of Maia Holden and Anna Green. There was a tie for the sealed handicap, with both Johnson Li and Charlie McDougall finishing 21 seconds ahead of their handicaps.
