"Muddy conditions, creeks turned to rivers... perfect cross country conditions."
That's the race write-up from two years ago, and it works for today's race as well, after four and a half days of rain in the last five days!
About twenty Hutt Valley members joined us for this event; it was a shame what should be a fun event was held in such tough conditions!
On with the results: in the men's race, Brian Rusbridge was the winner by nearly half a minute over Mike Binkhorst, with Matt Prosser, on his debut race for the year, nearly another minute back. Mike Waterman retains the coveted Dad Philp Pewter Pot with the fastest time.
In the women's race, Donna McDonald won with a margin of a minute and a half – perhaps the handicapper needs to check his spreadsheet or perhaps she was a far better stream-crosser than anyone else! Michelle Van Looy had the fastest women's time.
The junior men's race completed a Rusbridge hat-trick, with Fraser taking line honours and Lachie having the fastest time. The junior women's race was won by Caitlin Bedlington, and Susannah Lynch had the fastest time.
Race 1: 1km scratch race; race 2: 2km scratch race; race 3: open handicap with either 4km or 8km (as noted).
The scratch place for the handicap race is ranked by 4km walk, 4km run or 8km run.
