Conditions were pretty good for the running of the 2015 Shaw Baton Relays being somewhat cloudy overhead with a bit of a northerly breeze. The course had to be altered somewhat due to trimming of pine trees not far from the start of the leg. This meant that times were faster than in previous years, which gives encouragement to those of us who are getting a bit older. There was good support for the event this year with 548 individual results in the relays (this will include some people running twice).
In the first relay of the day the Scottish women prevailed in both the Senior and Masters grades, while WHAC took out the Junior Women.
The second relay saw Olympic take out both the under 14 and under 12 boys with WHAC taking out both the female age groups.
In the final race of the day there was a battle between the young WHAC team and a more established Scottish in the senior mens grade. Scottish prevailed after a slowish start but Marcus Karamanolis of WHAC with 5:53 finished with the fastest time of the day. Olympic took out both the junior mens and masters mens races, the former result a first for the club since the 1990s. WHAC showed their depth in the oldest grade with the first two places in the open 50 grade.
