The Philp Shield is a club team race held on the streets of Johnsonville, where runners are put into five teams, and run in one of four races. One runner from each team ran in race 1 (one short lap), another in race 2 (one long lap), 3 or 4 in race 3 (two long laps), and two in race 4 (3 long laps, or 5km).

Finishing places were added together (best 7 to count), and the team with the lowest score, the winner of the Philp Shield for 2002, was Mike Waterman�s Team "O3" - Mike, Rebecca Binkhorst, Cole Skilton, Daniel Robertson, Al Mallard, Tim Wakelin, Esther Martin and Bruce Edgar.
