The Philp Shield is our second-last club race of the year - a team event where everyone scores points for their team according to the place in which they finish. There were four options this year: 3 laps (5km) for the fastest two in each team, 2 laps for the middle two, one lap for the youngest or oldest, and a walking race.
As is usual for this event, the big long downhill is slowed down by the strong northerly, but it seems to give no boost on the uphill.
This year, Zhihao Cai (team O4) lead the field in, finishing just ahead of Miles and giving his team vital points in winning the Philp Shield. Junior Joshua Thuraisingham had a clear lead over second in the two lap race, and master Mike Waterman was the first of the three-lappers.
(There weren't enough walkers for each team to have one, so some teams had to share a walker. Note the tricky point allocation there.)
Be sure to check out Jo's photos - particularly of the sequence showing Juan getting outsprinted at the finish by Jess - and the expression on his face.
