Saturday, 11 Aug 2012, 12:15 to 14:00: Bays Relay - kids relay event, Island Bay/Red Rocks
INFO FOR THE KIDS EVENT TO BE ORGANISED BY SCOTTISH HARRIERS THIS SATURDAY 11 AUGUST:

For those too young to compete in a Bays Relay team (13 and under, 11 and under, 9 and under)

Jonathan Harper at Scottish Harriers is planning to gather along with the women's teams at Island Bay at 12.15, then drive off in the opposite direction just after the women set off around 12.35 to meet at the marine museum where the track to red rocks starts (next to the bronze sculpture of the shark (Frenzy")

You can always get into the museum sheltered area which is dry and protected from the wind. There are toilets nearby. This indoor area will make an excellent start/finish area. Run straight through it - being careful not to annoy any other users..

There a course will be set with a few marshals to especially watch out for 4WD vehicles (they are usually infrequent). It is planned to be about a 1km - hopefully 1.5km - lap going over the stream, up the hill a very short way (it quickly gets too steep) along the 4WD track and looping back along the beach - so we are on the vehicle track for a minimal time.

It will be very informal and unofficial, but Scottish have all the equipment needed to record results and times. They think teams of 4 might be good on this basis - allowing for small turnouts. A one lap race will follow or be first for the B9and G9s. The boys and girls will start separately.

There will be chocolate fish as prizes for all winning teams and individuals. Small fish for all competitors.

This plan is fluid and very open to modification through better suggestions.

If it is too wet and windy, plan B is to go to probably Wakefield Park on Adelaide Rd and use the circuit Tony Rodgers and Gabby have both used frequently. It will be sheltered. There are also toilets and the course does not cross any rugby or soccer fields that will probably be in use.

SO IF YOU ARE A KEEN TO HAVE YOUR CHILD INVOLVED WITH THIS EVENT PLEASE MEET AT ISLAND BAY BY THE PLAYGROUND WHERE THE OTHER TEAMS MEET AND LOOK FOR ANY OTHER KIDS WHO WILL BE THERE MEETING AS WELL.

Saturday, 1 Sep 2012, 12:45 to 13:25: NZ Road Champs Fun Run, Wellington
As part of the NZ Road Champs, we are also organising a “Fun Run” which will be wide open for everybody, with entries on the day.

The Fun Run is scheduled for 12.45 (between the M19 and the SM/SW race)

Runners have the option of running 1, 2, or 3 laps of the national championships course.

Registration is $10 for adults and $5 for school children.

Entries will be taken on the day inside the Mac's Brewery events room from 10:30 am onwards.

This will be a great chance for your members who may want to run in a less competitive race and those who will be coming along anyway to support their friends/family/club to have a run. In addition, fun run participants will all get a free chocolate treat at the end and an entry into a spot prize draw. This is a great way to support a major championship event in our city and to further encourage participation in running.

Visit our event page on Facebook for event updates building up to the big day.

The organiser is Tim Hodge (Scottish), who will also be racing as part of the official Wellington Senior Men’s team.
