Sunday, 18 May 2014, 09:00 to 10:00: Wellington Harriers Honest 10k, Wind Needle, Evans Bay

Come and join us to get ready for the National Road Relay in October (ok a bit early but we are having a monthly 10km every 3rd Sunday of the month through to at least October)

Event: Wellington Harriers Honest 10k (with an optional 5k run)
Cost: Free for the inaugural event
Venue: Wind Needle Evans Bay
Course:
10k - Evans Bay wind needle to the bus stop by Freyberg (5k out and 5k back)
5k - Evans Bay wind needle to the turn-around point near Balaena Bay (2.5k out and 2.5k back) starts at 9:05am
The course stays on the footpath. It will be well marshalled with 10k times given every km. There will be 2 water stations on the course and sports drink provided at the finish.

Interclub cross country races. Walk from venue.
The race starts on grass in front of badminton Hall.

There is usually very limited parking available in the badminton hall carpark. Parking is best on Alexandra Road or Ruahine Street. Do not expect to use the badminton car park or facilities.

Saturday, 31 May 2014: Wainuiomata Classic/Wellington Mountain Running Championships, Parkway Road, Wainuiomata
Updated 26 May 2014.
The Championships will take place on the hills between Wainuiomata and Lower Hutt City up above the Wainuiomata Hill Road. This is the same location that was used for the 2013 NZ Mountain Run Championships.

Entrants are encouraged to pre-enter on-line by Thursday 29 May at 8pm.

Open handicap cross country races. Old members and our centenary guests will be joining us. Update: the venue is confirmed as our usual venue at the Pony Club in Boom Rock Road, in Ohariu Valley.

1.30pm: Boys & Girls 9 and Under (1km scratch race), Boys & Girls 13 and Under (2km scratch race)

2.00pm-ish: Walkers;
Senior Women, Masters Women, Junior Women (W16 & W 19), Junior Men (M16 & M19) (4km open handicap);
Senior Men & Masters Men (8km open handicap)

(Both handicap races -- 4km and 8km -- will be run concurrently with one finish time.)

Centenary afternoon tea at the Clubrooms following the final race - please bring a plate

This year there are five events in the kids cross country series:

Sunday 11 May: Karori Park (hosted by Karori Amateur Athletic Club)
Sunday 8 June: Trentham Memorial Park (hsted by Upper Hutt Athletic Club)
Sunday 27 July: Sladden Park, Petone (hosted by Hutt Valley Harriers)
Sunday 31 August: Grenada North Park (hosted by Olympic Harriers)
Sunday 14 September: WHAC clubrooms, Mt Victoria (Hosted by Wellington Harrier Athletic Club)


2014 details:

9:30am - On the day registrations and race bibs available to collect. Enter at least 7 days prior for a personalised race bib
9:45am - Course open for walk around
10:00am - Guided walk around course
10:30am - Year 1 Boys and Girls Race (approx 800m)
10:45am - Year 2 Boys and Girls Race (approx 800m)
11:00am - Year 3 Boys and Girls Race (approx 1km to 1.5km)
11:15am - Year 4 Boys and Girls Race (approx 1km to 1.5km)
11:30am - Year 5 Boys and Girls Race (approx 2km to 2.5km)
11:45am - Year 6 Boys and Girls Race (approx 2km to 2.5km)

Please note: times can change on the day with races able to run up to 30 minutes earlier than advertised (only in adverse weather conditions if we need to rush it through).

We encourage you to enter online. Enter one event, or all five! It's a great way to keep fit over the winter months, so come along have some fun. The cost is $7 per person per event. You can enter on the day, but if you pre enter at least seven days before each event you will have your own personalised race bib on the day.

There are individual and team awards. You can get your friends together to form a team. 3 or 4 per team (top 3 in the team count). Individual placings count towards team points. Each team member must enter as an individual too. Teams but be entered online or before 10am on the day.

Medals and Awards

Medals for top 3 individuals in each race for each year group.

Certificates for top 3 teams in each race. (Children can run up a grade if they want to make up a team with older age groups, i.e. a year 2 can run in the year 3 race and be part of a year 3 team)
Please note: the team awards will be presented at the following event as we will organise personalised certificates following the event they competed in.

Medals for overall series top 3 individuals and teams (based on 3 best placings over the first 4 events). These will be awarded at the final event.

Timing chips and correct uniforms must be worn.
Temporary timing chips are available on the day for registered club members and only before 12:30pm ($20 with $10 refund on return)

Sunday, 15 Jun 2014, 09:00 to 10:00: WHAC Honest 10k, Wind Needle, Evans Bay
The honest 10 offers:

  • An accurately measured 10km run for serious and not so serious runners

  • At least two pacemakers (pace will vary from 40 - 55 muniutes)

  • A drinks table that you can use out and back

  • Time calls on the course

  • Free sports drink at the finish


  • Registration from 8:15am at Evans Bay wind needle.
    Run starts at 9am.
    The couse runs from the wind needle to Freyberg bus stop and back.
    Entry fee $10.

The Annual General Meeting of Athletics Wellington will be held at Olympic Harrier Clubrooms, Alex Moore Park, Bannister Ave, Johnsonville, at 7:30pm on Tuesday 24 June 2014.

Attendance from representatives of all clubs is encouraged, along with anyone else with an interest in the future direction of athletics in Wellington.

Saturday, 28 Jun 2014, 08:00 to 09:30: Scenic Training Run with Scottish, Club rooms, Bannister Ave, Johnsonville
Scottish Harriers have started a series of scenic training runs on the last Saturday of the month. This is the second of these events and will be held at our club rooms.

The run is intended to be for an hour and a half or more and the planned route (weather permitting) is along the Skyline to the Chartwell substation.

It would be good to see a number of Olympic members joining in on this run.

5mile Road race: Times: Walkers 4 laps (6.4km) - 10.45 am, Runners 5 laps (8km) - 11.00 am Prizes: Prizes will be awarded to the first place runner in each age group plus additional prizes where warranted. Prizes for first two men and women in race walk plus additional prizes where warranted. Prizes for the first 3 Club teams. (2 running teams and 1 walking team.) Teams: Running – Four to a team with at least one woman. Walking – Three to a team (mixed team). A light lunch will be provided. A number of Spot Prizes will be drawn on the day.
