2016 details:
Wellington Harrier Athletic Club invites all walkers to participate in the “Turkey Trot” walked in conjunction with the Bays Relay.
What is a “Turkey Trot”? It’s an event where you estimate your time for the distance (5 km) and results are decided on how close you finish to your estimate. The catch is that nobody is allowed to wear a watch or receive sideline advice on their progress times!
The event is great fun for competitive and recreational walkers. We’ll even admit “Nordic Walkers” if they want to try and all finishers receive the traditional walker’s peanut slab!
We try to finish the event before the runners start, so that the keenest of you can join a relay team as well; or at least get out and support them!
Entry: Register at the caravan at Island Bay, by recording your name and estimated time (and arranging the entry fee), from 10.00 onwards.
Entry Fee: $8. If you’re a registered member of your club, we’ll invoice the Club direct. If you don’t belong to a Club, or are a “Social Member” please pay when you register.
Start Time: 10.30 a.m. Judging: Walkers will not be judged, but the race manager will be watching for “running”. He will also be happy to offer any comments on style (if asked).
Prizegiving: At the finish line (opposite Warehouse on Lyall Bay Parade), as soon as the last walker finishes. (And the race manager has double checked his maths!)
Interclub road relay races. Contact your grade captain by the weekend before the race to be put in a team.

2016 details
NEW: This year the road course is based on a 2.5km loop instead of a 2km loop. There will still be a short 1km loop for the young grades. The top turn will be 200m further up the road at a location that allows for a wider and safer turn than the previous top turn. The bottom turn and start area will be 50m down from the previous location. The 10km course will now be 4 laps with just 7 turns (previously 9 turns). The 5km course will be 2 laps with just 3 turns (previously 5 turns). Race distances for some younger grades will be slightly longer or shorter than previous years to incorporate the 2.5km loop.
Parking: There is parking either at the course, down by the clubrooms at Richard Prouse Park or at the end of Hine Road. If you want to use public transport, you can catch a 170 bus to Wainuiomata from Waterloo Railway station or Lower Hutt Shopping Centre and get off the bus at the end of Hine Road.
Refreshments: Barbecue, hot drinks, cold drinks, and muffins will be for sale at the tent area by the start/finish line.
Toilet Facilities: There will be 4 portaloos on site. There are also toilets situated next to the clubrooms at Richard Prouse Park.
