Graeme and Cathy are our hosts this week. Meet just before 2pm for a 2pm departure.
Run or walk an off-road Marathon, Half Marathon or 10km, following the course of the Hutt River, from the foothills of the Rimutaka Mountains to the river’s estuary on the shores of Wellington Harbour. Or run or walk a 60km Ultra Marathon, starting at Cross Creek in the Wairarapa, crossing the historic Rimutaka Incline rail trail, and joining the Marathon course at Kaitoke.
The Course: These are off-road events, over a variety of surfaces including: bush tracks, grass, gravel and sealed footpaths, and some unsealed vehicle tracks. There is approximately 5km of public road in the early part of the Marathon course. All of the course is shared with other users, such as runners, walkers, trampers, cyclists and – in some places – motor vehicles. Unusual features include: Tunnels, stiles, gateways and zigzags, and one flight of steps (up). The majority of the course, including all of the Half Marathon and 10km, is flat, with some undulations over stop banks etc
Transport: These (except for the 10km) are point-to-point events and, for each event, transport will be provided at an additional cost between the Race Headquarters in Petone and the relevant start location, 1 hour before your start time (1¼ hours for the Ultra Marathon). It is recommended that you park your vehicle in Petone and take advantage of this offer.
Clothing: Clothing to suit the weather conditions must be worn, particularly in the Ultra Marathon. Clothing, which must be in suitable bags and clearly labelled, will be transported from your start location to the finish in Petone. Whilst we will take all reasonable care with your belongings, the Aurora Harrier Club will not be responsible for misplaced or lost gear
Conditions of Entry: Events conducted by the Aurora Harrier Club are run subject to the rules of Athletics New Zealand and the IAAF, and compliance with these rules is a condition of participation.

David lives up past Upper Hutt in a rural setting so this almost qualifies as an away trip - and away trips are always fun! He is keen to fire up the BBQ afterwards. There will be some sausages, but if you want other things then plan ahead.
6 Bridge Road, Upper Hutt, Sat 24 Jan, 2pm
Beware - Google will expect you to jump the river, so try these directions
- Go past Upper Hutt on the River Road
- About 2km after the end of the River Road, head left up the Akatarawa Road
- About 2km up you cross a bridge, then an immediate left across another bridge onto Bridge Road
- Number 6 is only ~100m on right -- the drive/road doubles around to head back up the river
- 300m along it splits 3 ways - pick the middle
