OLYMPIC AT WAITARERE
Last weekend, several members of Olympic went to Levin to take part in the races taking place in the Waitarere Forest.
Sandra, Rose and me drove to Waikanae on Friday night and met Tineke, Geraldine, Erena and Michelle at a restaurant where we had a very nice dinner. Unfortunately no pasta !
Then we all drove to Waitarere Beach where we stayed in a house belonging to some of Tineke's friends. It was a big place, very nice and clean, with lots of beds. So we all settled down after a cup of tea and most of us had a good night sleep.
In the morning we did not have to drive far to the start of the races.
Most of us were taking part in the half marathon which is a very nice flat course through the pine forest. I was told it was a slow course, but it had been raining and where there was sand, it was fairly hard.
At the start, we met Andrew, Butch, Mark and Liz, Malcolm and Cathryn.
Sandra, Malcolm and Cathryn did the 10 km race. Cathryn's son, Ethan, did the 5 km.
Here are the half marathon results :
Mark, Andrew and Michelle did particularly well. Andrew and Michelle
both had Pbs, Michelle improving on her last best time by 3 minutes.
Four of us came in the first three in our age groups : Mark,
Michelle, Geraldine and Annie.

After the race, we were all hoping that we would win great prizes but that wasn't to be as only Liz was lucky and got a 50 $ voucher.
Anyway, we all had lots of fun and might well do it again next year.
