The weather conditions were almost ideal for the 20th Lifestyle Sports Waterfront 5k. The afternoon rain stopped in time for the race, but ensured that not many pedestrians were out on the course. An almost non existent wind ensured times were fast for the 90 keen runners and walkers.
Leading everyone home was Jason Waite with a time of 16min 40sec, holding out by 4sec a fast finishing Dave Parsons. Michelle van Looy had her first race in the series, and was rewarded with a win and sub 20min time (19min 56sec). Stuart Hood (27.39) edged Tim Dutton (27.49) to record a win in the men's walk, with Terri Grimmett (32.12) first again in the women's walk.
Next week is the final week for the participation competition. The competition will reward the people that complete the most races in the 15 weeks from 14 September 2010 to 21 December 2010. We have over $1000 of prizes to give away, so if you have been a regular participant (ie have missed no more than 4 races during the period) come along and see if you have won a prize. And to everyone else .... come along for the celebration and a post race (Christmas) drink.
A big thanks to our sponsors - in particular Lifestyle Sports for the weekly gift voucher and Chicago Sports Cafe for the free drink afterwards and bar tabs as spot prizes.
Note the last event of the year will be 21 December, then we break for 2 weeks before starting up again on 11 January, going through to 5 April.
