North Island Colgate Games, Cooks Gardens, Wanganui Sunday, 11 January 2009

The North Island Colgate Games were held in Wanganui from the 9th to the 11th of January. The Olympic Junior Track and Field Club had 10 athletes representing us at these games. They were Tamara and Phoebe Anderson, Callum Goodwin, Jess and Amelia Kerr, Keller McDonald, James Palmer, Ella Vincent-Hyde and Oliver and Ethan Wood. It was a fantastic games, great venue, very well run and lots of talented athletes competing from all over the North Island and some from the South Island too. We had some great results with placings as follows:

  • Tamara Anderson (8 year old girls), 1st in 60m
  • Callum Goodwin (7 year old boys), three medals in 60m, 100m and long jump
  • Amelia Kerr (8 year old girls), 2nd in discus and 3rd in shot put and long jump
  • Jess Kerr (10 year old girls), 1st in 800m and 1st in 1500m
  • Ella Vincent-Hyde (9 year old girls), 4th in long jump

Only events for those aged 10 and older are timed. Jess Kerr ran personal bests to come first in 800m (2m33) and 1500 (5m19.77) against fierce competitors Georgia Creagh from Napier and Kelsey Forman from Wellington Harriers.

Well done to all athletes who competed. It was a great experience for all involved. Next year the games are being held at Mt Smart Stadium on the 8th, 9th and 10th of January so hopefully we'll have even more Olympic athletes representing us there.
