96 runners and walkers (97 if you count Mary Fisher's guide Abi Hiester) fronted for the 15th race in Waterfront 5km Series/1st in the Twilight Series. The weather was quite chilly with a brisk southerly to slow the outward journey but assist on the return.
Dave Parsons turned out for the first time this series and led the field home in 16:21. He was followed by Grant McLean in 17:13 and Mark Heath with 17:53. First time entrant Sarah Booth held out Bernie Portenski in the early race to be the fastest woman overall in 21:06 (Bernie ran 21:11). Anthea Morrison with 21:38 was the fastest in the second wave with the third fastest time. Stuart Hood decided to walk this week and was easily fastest with an excellent time of 26:50. Terri Grimmett was the first woman walker in a time of 30:18.
A big thank you to the team from the Olympic Harriers: Ele, Rob B, Geraldine, Grant, Graeme, Murray and Mark.
And thanks to our sponsors - in particular Lifestyle Sports for the weekly gift voucher and Chicago Sports Cafe for the free drink afterwards and bar tabs as spot prizes. Lifestyle has a very extensive range of running shoes. If you can't get to the shop in Tawa, send Manager Karen an email (rolysmith2@hotmail.com). She would be more than happy to answer your questions or source a pair of your favourite shoes.
We look forward to seeing you all back again in the coming weeks. Spread the word around your friends and workmates. Issue a few challenges and then enjoy some post race analysis over a beer.
