Race Report by Simon Angus
Ingrid and I ran in the Wairarapa Country Marathon which doubled as the Wellington Marathon Championships. With marathon events around the country being postponed training and focusing specifically for long distance events in the current situation is quite difficult and as such I think we both toed the start line with no expectations.
The race itself was run in windless but damp conditions with quite a strong field than in previous years. Nathan Tye from Wellington Harriers blistered the field for the men’s trophy and Mel Stevens from Scottish ran a strong race to pip Ingrid for the women’s title. Ingrid finished second (10th overall) in a respectful and probably well paced 2.58, I struggled home in the last 5km to get a PB in 2.48 (5th) but still lots to improve and learn from Ingrid over this distance.
I think I speak for both myself and Ingrid and say it was good to be out racing with others in a local event and hopefully the start of a good marathon season ahead!

Note sorting by time is alphabetic, not time based (so 1:00:00 comes after 0:50:00 because 1 comes after 0, but before 50:00 because 1 comes before 5).
