Mike Wakelin Wins Harbour Capital Half 28 Jun 2004.

Mike Wakelin & Adrian Bailey battle it out to the finish line(s?)
Photo: Gary Nesbit Another good outing for Olympic athletes at the Harbour Capital Half Marathon yesterday morning.

Mike Wakelin won the open event from last years winner, Adrian Bailey, in a good time of 1:11. Mike's warm up over the tough Ohariu Valley cross country champs course on Saturday obviously helped him tackle the strong northlerly winds so characteristic of this event.

In what was one of those true sporting moments Adrian who had been entered in the results as the winner deferred to Mike as both runners mistook the announcers mat as the finish line and stopped early, only to be spurred on to the actual finish line some 50m further on and crossing it together.

James Ardin one of our new members was 6th overall and 6th senior man in a great time of 1:15:03 just short of his goal of 1:15, he must be in a good mood looking forward to an English wedding in September - Congratulations on both results James!

Other club members featuring in the medals were; new member Warren Matulick who took out 1st place in the Masters 40-44 age grade followed by Chris Speakman 2nd in the same grade, Marylin Daly was third in the womans 50-54 grade. Sheryne Beeby was 1st in the 10k womens 45-49 grade, Melissa Carr was 3rd senior woman in the 10k.

Congratulations to all!!!
