Club News
Time for a breath of sea air 24 Aug 2017.
Club run/walk, Porirua Rowing Club, 2 Onepoto Rd, Sat 26 August, 1:45pm
This week is a trip to the seaside to run around the peninsula at the entrance to Titahi Bay. It is a nice mix of well packed trail by the shore and a bit of a hill to get back to the start. Plenty of options for people who want to extend it out a bit too.
This course is pretty much the same as the handicap race that Scottish are organising for the 21 October in memory of Bernie Portenski. Keep that date in your diaries as it is likely to be popular.
History
Trent Corbett has completed a fascinating look into the first members of Olympic club who soon became soldiers and then lost their lives in the First World War. http://www.olympicharriers.nz/about/history/soldiers-signalmen-runners/ It was a time when things may have been simpler, but the stakes were a lot higher. Recommended for a good read and could be useful material for a club quiz night down the road.
Sign up NOW for Athletics New Zealand Road Relays at Rotorua
The rego page is up now https://tinyurl.com/RoadRelays18 and we need YOU to commit to this so we can get things underway. Brian has again found some community sponsorship to help out with costs so it should be a blast. 30th September is not as far away as you might think, and really Rotorua isn't that far to travel either.
Bring back those trophies!
We really are getting to the end of the season so time to return the spoils from last season. It takes ages to get the engraving and everything sorted for prizegiving so please please get those trophies back.
