Philp Shield and afternoon tea 6 Sep 2016.

Philp Shield Relay, Alex Moore, Sat 10 Sep, earlier time of 1:30pm
A race for those who like to really let the engine roar, but also very strategic as there are different numbers of laps available for those in the team.  We form teams on the day based on people's expected times -- which is part of the reason for the slightly early start, but also there is  a Special General Meeting to seek to ratify the committee’s recommendation to increase the junior athletics club subscriptions for 7-14 year olds to $80 and to include a family discount.  This is to reflect the increase in the Athletic New Zealand levies introduced for the 2016/17 season.

Afternoon tea afterwards so could people please bring a plate.

Along with those plates how about a couple of cups?   It is time to dust off those trophies you won last year and return them to the clubroooms.  There is a lot to organise before prize giving and it makes it much easier if the prizes themselves are sorted out in good time.  Thanks.

Athletics Wellington has a number of coaching courses that are ideal for club night volunteers.  Clubs need parents/volunteers/teenagers to help out at club days or club nights so we've scheduled a number of coaching courses to help out.  It doesn't matter if you've never done athletics before, or if you haven't coached.  These courses give you the skills to get out there and help - and clubs are always needing new volunteers to step up.

  • The IAAF Kids Athletics Course is coming up THIS SATURDAY at Newlands Intermediate.
  • The Run Jump Throw modules are not far away on Sunday 25 September, also at Newlands Intermediate.  Three modules each one only 2 hrs - pick and choose!
  • And the Get Set Go Course is on Sunday 16 October at Grenada North Park in Tawa.

Last call for the National Road Relays - Rotorua 1 October - sign ups close TODAY (Tue 6th)
All for one and one for all -- this is the unofficial end of year away trip for Olympic and a heap of fun.  No trouble to get to, being in the North Island, and the Club has organised a number of grants and canny deals to make transport and accommodation very reasonable.  Details of the race and accommodation at the entry page: https://eventdesq.imgstg.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=main&EventDesqID=20160&OrgID=10499

Also I didn't make the bookings for Sister Act last night so one more chance to get in for the Saturday 17th performance of Sister Act at the St James. Sarah Riceman has been rehearsing for this in between running and studying.  If you are interested ($40) let me know, tonysimmers@paradise.net.nz
