Great Lake Relay 22 Feb 2004.
The 9th Great Lake Relay was held this Saturday over 160kms around Lake Taupo.
The weather eased enough for the teams to get through from Wellington. 144 Social Running, 142 Composite, 47 Walking teams and 17 solo competators took part including Graeme Butcher from Masterton (2nd place, 1st NZer in 9:26:17 - 100km, well ahead of his goal of 10 hours).
Two social running teams featured Olympic club members; "Roosters Racing.com" achieved 4th place in a time of 11:08:29 (30 mins quicker than last year), a magnificent effort with several members showing that they are still fleet of foot despite an average age of 53; Bligh's Bounty also features 3 Olympic Club Members, they achieved a sub 12 hour time (11:49:18, 20 mins quicker than their previous best) and placed 12th the best result for them in the 5 years they have been competing.
