Philp Shield teams race, club rooms, 12 September, 1:45
Perhaps not quite the relay I called it last week -- that comes next week with the Perston Baton at Karori. It's a fun teams race where there are different distances for different team members and will be on a new circuit around the track and footpaths near Alex Moore Park. Organised confusion, but it allows the element of strategy to enter the equation. It's good to appreciate running smart can be just as effective as running fast. Actually just running really fast is a pretty good strategy...
Please be on time as it takes a bit of organising to sort out the teams.
After the races we will have an afternoon tea, so please bing a plate. It is also when we will give out the medals from the club road champs which were held in conjunction with the Wellington champs at Wainui a few weeks ago. If you still have other trophies from last year it is time to return them - with all the other excitement you might be able to make out you were a winner all over again.
Some results from last week
The 5th Kids Cross Country Series was around Mt Victoria last Sunday. It was the last in the series so we should be seeing results for the overall series soon. In the meantime the results for the last race are here.
The big boys and girls were running the National Road Champs at Tauranga. Wellington did well in the masters grades, taking out both the mens and womens team races. Olympic were represented by Seamus Kane (M18), Phoebe Van Boheeman (W18), Mike Waterman (M35) and Jo Crawford (SW).
Pelourus Half (and other distances), Sunday 13 Sept, Petone
A number of members are entered in this and looking to round out the season with a good hard run. Good luck to you all.
National Road Relays are coming up in Christchurch on 3 Oct
It is the 75th anniversary and it is a blast running from the edge of town over the Port Hills to Akaroa. We have accommodation lined up but the places are not unlimited -- contact Brian Rusbridge Brian.Rusbridge@nzct.org.nz to sort things out. Start looking for flights now -- there is as much competition in finding the cheapest flight as there is in the race itself!
