35th Inter-College Cross Country Relays 3 May 2012.
The annual inter-college cross country relays at Karori Park is being held on Wednesday 9th May, starting at 1:30pm. This is a school event, not a club event, but if any students are interested in participating and your high school or college has not yet decided to put in a team, then you may be able to help out by organising some interest. Below is the invitation letter from the event organiser, Scottish Harriers:
Scottish are pleased to invite your college to take part in the above races at Karori Park on Wednesday 9th May 2012, starting at 1.30pm.The course, which is approximately 2km in length, will start and finish in front of the changing rooms. Changing rooms will be available in the pavilion at Karori Park, one for boys and one for girls.
The races will have three grades for boys (Year 9, under 16 and open) and three grades for girls (Year 9, under 16 and open). All grades will be competing at the same time.
The age for determining grades is 31/12/2012, i.e. under 16 on 31st December 2012 and so on. This is the same date used for this year’s New Zealand Championships. The teams will consist of 6 members for boys and 4 members for girls.
On arrival at Karori Park, team managers are to report to hand over team lists (in running order) and to pick up team numbers. These numbers will be colour codes to indicate the grade, numerically coded to indicate the team and alphabetically coded to indicate the lap i.e. Lap 1 will be A, Lap 2 will be B and so on. Please note that pins will not be supplied, so you will need to provide 4 pins for each runner. Numbers are to be worn on the front. Please report as soon as you arrive as all teams must report by 1.15pm.
Certificates will be awarded to the winning college, all members of the winning team and for the fastest lap in each grade. As an incentive, Scottish is offering free membership for this winter to any person who is awarded a certificate, with the proviso that this offer is not available to anyone who is already a member of any harrier club.
Please advise the number of teams which you wish to enter to the undersigned at 4739-414 or at dondalgliesh@xtra.co.nz before May 8th. Entry fee is $5 per team but you are asked to limit entries to a maximum of five teams in any one grade. Cheques should be made out in favour of "Runners Aid".
We hope that these races will assist in your preparation for the National Cross Country in Auckland in June, and will also help to foster interest in athletics and cross country running in your college.
I look forward to your participation in our races on May 9th.
Yours faithfully,
Don Dalgliesh
