Walkers Walking Well 9 Jun 2008.
The first of a series of 10k and 6k races run by Scottish was held on Saturday 7 June at the old CIT complex in Trentham. Three Olympic walkers ventured out on a bleak morning, peppered with short sharp showers. to test their luck. The 2k course was reconfigured to 1k as windows had blown out of one of the buildings within the complex, making it unsafe to walk in that area.
Walking in the unjudged section, Andrea Adams walked the 10k race in 76m19s. Colleen Singleton walked the 6k race in 47m31s with Paula Binkhorst on her heels at 47m32s.
John Hines is always encouraging to Olympic walkers with his “keep it going” “you’re doing well”, “swing those arms”. Bart Jones gave us encouragement at the race by reminding us to use arms to gain momentum. On my training walk this morning I put that advice into action and found that when the arms were working for me the shoulders were down, the head was in the right place and the momentum from the arms was taking me forward. Now I need to put a reminder in my cell phone to remember this advice before I start the half marathon on 22 June.
