Marathon woman Kathrine Switzer to appear in Wellington 27 February 20 Feb 2008.

Kathrine Switzer, the woman who changed running history by being the first female to officially run the Boston Marathon and led the drive to get the women's marathon into the Olympic Games, is launching her memoir MARATHON WOMAN in Wellington, Wednesday, 27 February, 6:15 PM at Shoe Clinic, 64 Willis Street. Special guest will be Sir Ron Scott, a man who changed the face of sport in New Zealand by his visionary Chairmanship of the 1974 Christchurch Commonwealth Games.

Switzer is one of sport's most iconic and inspiring athletes; here is an opportunity to hear both her and Scott speak. Switzer also will be signing copies of her book, which is riveting, rollicking and historically important at the same time. You remember Switzer - she was the one officials attacked mid-race and tried to throw out of the marathon just because she was a girl!

For more information and a schedule of national MARATHON WOMAN events, see the Athletics NZ media release. The event is free and open to the public.
