8 September 2007, 10 legs, 66.3km

The Olympic Walking Team lined up in Marton at 7am for the 10-lap relay through the Turakina, Whangaehu and Matarawa Valleys. Our walkers – Diane Murdoch, Cindy Horne, Colleen Singleton, Carol Brieseman and Andrea Adams – walked two legs each, with Cindy tackling the 2.5km Reid’s Hill with ease. The race organisers haven’t caught up with the fact that about 2km of lap 8 have now been tar sealed, which made the leg easier. We took 18 minutes off our last year’s time, coming in 11th out of 23 teams in a time of 8h 26m 28s.

A total of 337 people participated in this challenging event on a beautiful spring day.

The race organiser, Roger Morrison, challenges Olympic Harriers to send more teams next year.
