Results for North Island Colgate Games, Newtown Park, Wellington - 4, 5, 6 January
The North Island Colgate Games was held at Newtown Park last weekend. It was a fantastic event with 1200 kids aged from 7 to 14 participating from around the country. We had 8 athletes competing from Olympic and we all enjoyed cheering them on over the three days. Murray McGaughran thinks it's the first time ever that Olympic has had athletes competing at these games.
Richard Bott was 4th in his 800m heat (2 mins 26) and 13th in the final. He also finished 7th in his 1500m heat (5 mins 03) which gave him the 14th best time out of the two heats. 16 went into the final but an injury meant Richard was unfortunately unable to participate.
Catherine Bott was 4th in her 800m heat (2 mins 53) then 10th in the final at her first ever Colgate Games so we were all very proud of her.
Gareth Bott took part in his first Colgates competing in the 200m and the long jump. He was also a great supporter of the other athletes and loved his time on the Coke stand (one of our Olympic jobs over the 3 days).
Gabby Evans won her 400m heat for grade 10 so just missed out on the finals. She had the 16th fastest time out of 48 athletes competing in that age group - and it was her first 400m run ever so she did amazingly well. If she'd had faster athletes in her heat it would have pushed her to an even better time.
In the 100m Gabby was placed 21st out of 72 competitors in her age group. She did a personal best of 15.3 so she had an extremely successful Colgate Games.
Bronwyn was 3rd in the 60m and 100m divisional finals for grade 9 so got to stand up on the podium and was presented with a flag.
Jess Kerr was unable to compete due to her broken leg but she was a very keen supporter of everyone over the three days. Thank you Jess for all your help on the souvenir stand, the Coke and icecream stands and the gates. You did a great job. Thanks also to Rob and Sharon and Sean McCrudden, the Dorringtons, the Evans, the Botts and Liz Tomlinson for all their help and for being their to cheer everyone on.
The next North Island Colgate Games will be held on the 4th, 5th and 6th of January next year in Inglewood. So if you're planning to holiday up that way in 2008 you might want to think about including this as part of your trip!
