MIKE PERO MORTGAGES ANNOUNCES SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS
A Wellington high school student has a $10,000 head start to his tertiary education after being named the overall winner of the 2007 Scholarship Programme, which is part of the Mike Pero Mortgages Foundation.
Christopher Blackford, who is in his final year of study at Bishop Viard College in Wellington, was awarded the $10,000 tertiary scholarship, which he will put towards his Bachelor of Science in biotechnology at Victoria University.
Mike Pero Mortgages Chief Executive Jeff Staniland says the selection panel was very impressed by the high standard of applications, given the scholarship was only launched this year.
“Christopher, Devon and Tamara are three very talented individuals both academically and culturally. As well as this they are all committed to giving something back to the community which was also a very important component in our final selection process.
“The aim of the Mike Pero Mortgages Foundation and the Scholarship Programme is to encourage young New Zealanders, with goals and aspirations, to reach their full potential in their chosen area of study."
The Scholarship Programme was a nationwide initiative open to all New Zealand citizens, aged between 17 and 25, embarking on their first year of tertiary study.
Chris' Mother says that he learnt about goal setting at Murray's Junior Training Camp and that it was soon after this that she noticed he had expanded his skill in this area to cover not only his sporting goals but also his life goal.
Congratulations Chris Awesome Effort!!! we are all proud of you
