It is with considerable saddness that I inform you of the passing of our Club Patron - Charlie Grant.

Charlie had been ill for about a month having suffered a series of strokes and died peacefully in his sleep early yesterday morning.

Our thoughts are with Peggy, his wife and their children Robyn and Stephen and their families.

Charlie had been a member of Olympic for well over 50 years and was an inspiring influence on the club and many of its members over the years.

I personally thank him for the encouragement he gave me when I joined nealrly 38 years ago.

Charlie was still very active with the walking group even in the summer months, right up until his illness.

Charlies Service will be held in the Guardian Funeral Home Chapel, Auty Lane (near Countdown), Porirua City on Thursday 19 January 2006 at 11.00am. Friends are welcome to say goodbye to Charlie on Wednesday 18 January 2006 between 1.00pm and 3.00pm at the funeral home.

In Lieu of flowers donations to the Wellington Free Ambulance would be appreciated and may be left at the service.
