2021 info from Wainui Harriers:

This year’s event will proceed under Covid-19 Alert Levels 1 and 2.

Due to Covid-19 and the potential for changing alert levels, there are some changes to previous years. The information below is the level 1 plan. Only minor changes will be required if we change to alert level 2.

Race Headquarters

Wainuiomata High School, Gymnasium
Parkway Road
Wainuiomata

The Gymnasium is towards the back of the High School by the playing fields. Toilets are available at the Gymnasium. The Gymnasium is only open before races start until 12:45pm. All gear must be taken and left in cars. There will be no afternoon tea or formal prize giving this year. Medals will be awarded at the finish area.

All entrants must report to Race Headquarters between 11:30am and 12:30pm on race day to sign in and receive a Race Number to be worn on the front of their singlet.

It is a short 5 minute walk from the Gymnasium to the Parkway Rise Subdivision Car-park where the races start and finish. Info

Our first club races for the season - the Maiden and Perston. There will be four races: two for the younger kids (700m and 1km), the Maiden (2km cross country for those who have never won a race before) and the Perston Memorial (2km cross country - same course as the Maiden, but for those who have won a trophy before). The course will be the same as last year's, at Grenada North Park.

We will need club members to help set up the course beforehand and pack it away afterwards - many hands make light work!

The Maiden and Perston Memorial races are sealed handicap - the club handicapper has predictions of everyone's times, and the handicap winners are those who beat their handicap times by the greatest margins.

The first trophies of the year are up for grabs too - awarded to both race winners and handicap winners.

These races will be followed by afternoon tea at the clubrooms. please bring a plate to share.

And one other thing - these races serve as trials for the Shaw Baton interclub relays held at Battle Hill later in April May.
