Saturday, 6 Apr 2019, 12:00 to 15:00: Maiden and Perston club races, and official opening of the harrier season, Grenada North Park ×

1200: Help set up course

1400: First race (kids)

Our first club races for the season - the Maiden and Perston. There will be four races: two for the younger kids (700m and 1km), the Maiden (2km cross country for those who have never won a race before) and the Perston Memorial (2km cross country - same course as the Maiden, but for those who have won a trophy before). The course will be the same as last year's, at Grenada North Park.

We will need club members to help set up the course beforehand and pack it away afterwards - many hands make light work!

The Maiden and Perston Memorial races are sealed handicap - the club handicapper has predictions of everyone's times, and the handicap winners are those who beat their handicap times by the greatest margins.

The first trophies of the year are up for grabs too - awarded to both race winners and handicap winners.

These races will be followed by afternoon tea at the clubrooms. please bring a plate to share.

And one other thing - these races serve as trials for the Shaw Baton interclub relays held at Battle Hill later in April.

Saturday, 13 Apr 2019, 13:00 to 16:30: NZ and Wellington Mountain Running Champs, Wainuiomata ×
Updated 1 Apr 2019.

Instead of a club run, we are encouraging all members - juniors, seniors and masters - to join in the Wellington Mountain Running Champs.

We won Queen Club of the Mountain title last year, and our kids won us the Prince and Princesses Club of the Mountain Title. Let's see if we can get the men's title back!

This is also a great chance to support Wainui Harriers - another small club with an awesome supportive social feel.

2019 info from Wainui Harriers:

Runners 16 and over can enter the NZ Champs which also gives automatic entry to Wellington Champs if you are a wellington based runner. if you don't wish to enter the NZ Champs but wish to just enter the Wgtn Champs, you can also do this for a lower entry fee.

Runners Under 16 can enter Wellington champs only as there are no NZ champs for U16.

Entries must be made online this year and entries close 1 week before the race. They are made through athletics NZ and require a login. You don't want to leave this to the last minute as remembering passwords and logins can be problematic for many of us. Also you need to pay online so if this is an issue for you, you may need to sort this with a friend paying for you with their card. The close off entry time is Sunday 7 April at midnight, the race is on Saturday 13 April. Many people like to leave entering to the last minute for all sorts of reasons, don't leave it too late, we are sorry we can't make the deadline later and we can't have on the day entries due to NZ Champs requirements and the need to have accurate systems in place for the day.

Course has a new finish area. we finish down on the flat so you run to the bottom of the hill and turn left up the footpath to a flat reserve, so no finish on the steep downhill section. Otherwise the course is the same.

Age Grades have changed for 2019 for all Harriers events. We now have 2 year age grades for those not yer seniors. For this event, U18 and U20 are a combined U20 age grade, then U16, U14, U12 and U10. And age must be taken as how old you will be at the end of this year, so if you will be 16 at the end of the year, you will be in the U20/U18 race, if you are 14 or 15 at the end of the year you will be in the U16 race, etc. Senior and Masters are as usual with masters being age on race day.

If you have already entered, great! We hope you and all our Wellington Clubs support this event with it being a NZ Champs. We have kept prices considerably lower than what is usually paid by people to do a National event. Events are always better when you have lots of people to compete with.

We hope to see you on the 13th April.
