Head out towards Makara Beach. About 200m down Makara Rd past the turnoff to Makara Beach, take a left up Opau Rd, and drive to the carpark at the end of the road. There are plenty of loops to run with great views across Cook Strait, old gun emplacements to explore, and herds of goats to run through. Head to the cafe at Makara Beach afterwards for refreshments.
