PLEASE READ THE INFO BELOW SO OUR FIRST CLUB NIGHT RUNS AS SMOOTHLY AS POSSIBLE
What you need to know for our club night:
- Under 7s meet on the bottom field, so park on Caribbean Drive as the field is right there.
- For those 7 and older, when you turn up on the first club night there will be numbered posts on the 100 metre track. All age groups meet here. Please get your child to line up behind the number of the age group they’re competing in, i.e. if they’re in the 5s they line up behind the number 5 post and 6s they line up behind the number 6 post, etc.
- We’ll start straight away at 5.30pm so we can be finished by 6.45pm.
Cancellations
If our club night is ever cancelled we will post this info on our website www.olympicharriers.org.nz and on our Olympic Junior Athletics Facebook page. If there’s been a lot of rain prior to Mondays, please check our website or 'like' our Facebook page as if the council closes the grounds we have no choice but to cancel our club nights even if it’s a nice day – hopefully this won’t happen at all!
Age Flashes and Uniforms
- It's not compulsory to wear the Olympic uniform for club nights but a lot of kids like wearing our dri gear t-shirts, singlets or hoodies. Rama Smith will have uniforms by the BBQ area if you want to check them out. We'll have uniforms available to purchase or order every second club night.
- We are ordering club age flashes for all members. At the moment we only have them for those competing in interclubs as they're compulsory there. We should have the club ones available on the second club night in November. These just need to be safety pinned to the front of the top your child is wearing on club nights.
- Helen Carr is in charge of our second hand uniforms. If you have anything to sell please bring it to the first club night. And if you would like to purchase any second hand gear then see Helen by the BBQ area on club nights.
Ages for the Season
Whatever age your child is on 31 December this year is the age they'll compete in for the entire season. For example if your child is 9 now but turns 10 in January, they will stay in the 9 year old age group for the season. However if they are 9 now and turn 10 anytime from now until the 31st of December, then they will compete in the 10 year old age group from the beginning till the end of the season. In short, whatever their age is on the 31st of December 2010 is the age group they’ll compete in this season.
Coaches/Volunteers
Thanks very much to those who have offered to help out on club nights. Please check the attached programme to see if your name is listed as a helper, coach, age grade coordinator etc for tomorrow night. If your name isn’t down but you’d like to get involved please send me an email or see me at the end of our first club night.
Age Grade Coordinators (parents who are in charge of an age group taking them from station to station on club nights)
We have split some age groups into two or more groups. We will name these groups as colours red or black. We have a lot of gaps for age grade coordinators so please get in touch if you're keen to help out in this role. You just need to take the group your child is in from station to station each club night. If you are the age grade coordinator this week, we'll have a red and black pen for you to mark on the kids hands which group they're in (so if they're in the 7 year old 'black' group they'll stay in that group for the season etc).
BBQ
We will have a BBQ running each Monday night. There will be sausages ($2), Peppy or Caramel Chews ($1), Raspberry Twists ($1) available from 6pm. Donna McDonald and Helen Carr are organising the BBQ which is a good fundraiser for our club covering equipment costs etc.
Next Interclub
The first interclub of the season is Sunday 3 November at Newtown Park starting at 10am. The second interclub is in Masterton on their track there (near the Masterton swimming pool and cricket ground) on Sunday 16 November. Olympic has won the interclub trophy for the past three years so we're keen to give it everything we've got this year as well. So come along and represent your club. It's open to all 7 to 15 year old athletes and is a great way to make new friends and get to know others in our club. You'll need a Colgate age flash for this, so if you're not at the first interclub but are planning to go to Masterton, see Rama Smith or email her so she knows you need one on foursmith@xtra.co.nz
For Sunday 2 November we will have someone near the Function room (BBQ area) who will have our club's age flashes if you don't have one already.

Grade 11/12/13 Interprovincial Training Squad
Athletics Wellington is offering 11, 12 and 13 year old club athletes the chance to be part of the Grade 11/12/13 Interprovincial Training Squad for 2014/15. Next year the Grade 12/13 Interprovincials will be held in Hamilton over the Easter weekend. Any club registered athletes interested in being part of this training squad, and who are in this age group, can sign up at www.athleticshub.co.nz/events. The first training is after the interclub on Monday 2 November at Newtown Park.
Colgate Games for athletes aged 7 to 14 years – enter by Monday 17 November
The North Island Colgate Games is being held in Wellington this year from Friday 9 to Sunday 11 January. A number of our members are on the local organising committee including Rama Smith who is Chairing this group. We usually get around 50 kids taking part in the Colgate Games each January, and that's when we have to travel away. So this year we're expecting even more to enter and be part of this huge event since it's on our back door step. We'll have registration forms at our club night on Monday by the uniforms. Or you can download a registration form at http://www.athletics.org.nz/Get-Involved/Childrens-Athletics-NZCAA
