Marton to Wanganui Relay, Wanganui - Martin Saturday, 9 September 2006
Updated 25 Mar 2013.

The Olympic Walking Team lined up in Marton at 7am for the 10-lap relay. Carol Brieseman walked the longest leg – 9.3k - masterfully, and despite the rain and metal road looked as fresh at the end as at the beginning. Each person walked two legs. We each walked our first leg in fine weather, but steady rain dogged the second half of the race. Seeing silt on the farmlands reminded us how tenuous a farmer’s life can be. We were pleased with our time of 8h 44m 13s and came 14th out of 29 walking teams. Manawatu Striders Magic Team won the relay for the second year in a new course record of 6h 48m 10s. With a little more training we will be up there with the best next year.

We met lots of old friends and made new ones as well. Brian Kilpatrick was walking with a team from Otaki and told me about his days running with Olympic. He sends his regards.
